We pride ourselves on being one of the longest serving Skoda retailers in the UK and in this time we have seen many changes, not only in the vehicles we sell and the manufacturer who builds them, but also in the customers we serve.
Sherlodge Garage first started as a small petrol station and workshop, repairing all types of vehicles and selling a few used cars, as more land became available the garage got bigger.
In 1979 the Skoda franchise was awarded to the garage and we began to sell Skoda’s, starting with the Skoda Estelle a rear engine, rear wheel drive vehicle.
Next came the Skoda Favorite five door hatch back and estate with the engine in the front and front wheel drive it was a completely new vehicle.
In 1991 Skoda and Volkswagen merged and became Skoda Automobile part of the Volkswagen group, opening it up to lots of new technology.
That year the Skoda Felicia was launched and it was the first Skoda to have a Volkswagen engine.
Then came the launch of the modern Skoda range as we know it today with the Skoda Octavia first followed by the Skoda Fabia and finally the Skoda Superb.
During this time we have moved the Skoda franchise three times, firstly to our garage at Lordswood, where a three car showroom was built.
At the same time the parts department and workshop were moved to Gillingham Business Park.
In 1996 the franchise was moved to a solus site in Canterbury Street; Gillingham with a larger showroom and with the workshop and parts department all on one site.
Our most recent move was back to our original site at Hoath Lane in Gillingham, which had a modern showroom, workshop and parts department designed and built some years before with our customers in mind.
This move took place in 2000 and the franchise has grown ever since supported by the numbers of customers we serve.
Giving our customers a First Class service is our main priority.
Sherlodge Garage has always liked to think of its staff and customers as its friends and this has proved very successful over the years, with many of our staff being with us for a very long time and many of our existing customers returning time after time and now bringing their families with them.
Andrew Clarke said we also have a third generation at the garage on most days, as my daughter Alice aged seven is normally at the dealership before school, helping in the parts department or talking to customers and staff, even at holiday times she insists on coming in to see her friends. |
